What we do today

• Reference editions are labelled as such

  Live

  The 22 culture pages are built from openly-licensed sources with attribution, and every page says it is not community-endorsed.

• Documented consent for every contribution

  Live

  The contributor records who may see the material and which uses are allowed: public display, research, education, AI processing. Each use is a separate choice.

• Consent can be withdrawn

  Live

  Withdrawal unpublishes the contribution, stops its media being served and is recorded in the ledger. It is a standing right.

• Private storage by default

  Live

  Uploaded media sits in private storage. It is served only while consent covers public display, through short-lived signed links.

• Takedown and correction on request

  Live

  Any community, community organisation or knowledge holder can ask us to correct, restrict or remove material about their culture. Their objection is decisive.

• No automated publishing; AI only by consent

  Live

  A person reviews everything before publication. Material enters an AI tool only with the separate AI-processing consent. FirstCiv does not use contributed material to train AI models.

• No speculation

  Live

  No NFTs, no tokenisation of cultural material, no sale of data.

Collective benefit

Any future revenue follows the 70/20/10 commitment in Governance, with the community share first.

Authority to control

Communities can claim, correct and retire their pages; contributors set and withdraw consent; a community objection is decisive.

Responsibility

Each item carries its source, licence or consent basis, and a public record of every moderation decision.

Ethics

Human review before publication, no automated decisions about cultural material, and no speculation.

Ownership

The originating community is named as owner of its contributed material. Contributors keep their rights and grant only the uses they choose.

Control

Consent scopes, withdrawal and page claims give communities control over what is shown and how it is used.

Access

Communities can ask for everything held about them. A self-serve full export is planned; until then we provide it on request.

Possession

A hosted platform does not give communities physical possession of their data, and we do not claim to. We will work with advisors toward community-controlled or repatriable hosting as the platform grows.
