FirstCiv is a consent-first archive of living cultural heritage. Communities decide what is recorded and shared, every contribution is reviewed by a person, and consent can be withdrawn at any time.
FirstCiv is a consent-first archive of living cultural heritage — songs, languages, crafts and stories. Founded by Maksym Stepanenko and operated by INNOVA CONSULT LTD. in Ottawa, Canada, it lets communities and contributors decide what is recorded, who may see it and how it may be used. Every contribution is reviewed by a person before publication, consent can be withdrawn at any time, and each moderation decision is written to a public, tamper-evident ledger. The site currently holds 22 reference editions in English, Spanish, Russian and French, built from openly-licensed sources and open for their communities to claim, correct or remove.
